Burger Urge has secured one of the country’s most dynamic hospitality leaders, Thomas Gunter, as our new Head of Operations—a game-changing appointment for the brand’s national expansion.
Best known for his instrumental role in the rapid growth of Betty’s Burgers, Thomas oversaw multi-site operations across Queensland and Western Australia, leading a passionate team of operators and successfully delivering the brand’s first South Australian restaurant in Adelaide, along with a string of high-performing openings across the East Coast. With more than 20 years’ leadership experience under his belt, Thomas has consistently delivered results in sales, compliance, team engagement, and EBITDA growth at scale.
Originally from Hobart, Thomas built his reputation in Tasmania’s ultra-competitive Pub Banc Group before relocating to Brisbane in 2017. From there, he became one of Betty’s Burgers’ key drivers of growth, responsible for opening new markets and leading teams across 24 restaurants.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the strongest brands in hospitality, but Burger Urge is different. It’s bold, ambitious, and poised for the next stage of growth—and I’m excited to help take it there,” said Thomas.
Thomas brings the kind of leadership and track record that could have landed him anywhere in the industry. His decision to join Burger Urge underscores the brand’s momentum and the opportunities ahead. With his expertise in people development, operations, and large-scale growth strategy, Burger Urge is set to raise the bar as we expand our footprint across Australia.
Founded in Queensland and now fast approaching $100 million in turnover, Burger Urge has reimagined what a burger restaurant can be. With top-quality ingredients, bold branding, and a human-first model, it continues to lead Australia’s gourmet burger revolution—one authentic experience at a time.
